Your help to sustainable health and redesigning your body
Have you ever decided to do something that you knew was good for you and then allowed resistance to some in your way? I used to do it all the time. “Tomorrow I will meditate” or “Tomorrow I will go running” etc etc. And the next day I managed to push it in front of me until “now it’s too late anyway”…. Oh, how it breaks down your self-esteem! And in the long run it also brings down your trust worthiness. If you don’t trust your self, why should others.
Now resistance to doing things that are good for me is certainly still there. Nowadays however I’m trying another approach. I decide on what is important to me. I try to be 100% realistic about what I will have time to do. I write a list. This have worked really well so far, but then a friend of me taught me one extra ingredient and I believe this is going to make all the difference in the world!
The secret ingredient is to say aloud: This is non negotiable! Compare it to saying “Tomorrow I will…” “Tomorrow I must… ti “Tomorrow I am going to….. and it’s non negotiable”. To me I will is not as empowering (maybe because I’ve used it too many times and not followed up on my own promise), and I must gives me a feeling of someone forcing something and has a negative ring to it.
Thursday evening when I tried this for the first time I said aloud: “Tomorrow I’m going for a run, and it’s non negotiable” and when I used “it’s non negotiable” I felt like it was already done and I had to put no more energy into it. No ifs or shoulds or woulds – it was decided so i could simply focus on whatever else I had to do before the run on Friday.
Friday swept by and suddenly it was dark outside and snowing. Not one second did I think “I don’t want to” or “Maybe I shouldn’t”. All I thought was, well I missed the daylight. Then I changed into running gear and set off. Great run, my best in a long time!
So if you, like me, ever feel this resistance to things you’ve decided to do. Try: “It is not negotiable!”
