Using prescription drugs can be lethal

Prescription drugs has saved and saves many lives. Many people depend on them to be able to live a normal life. Unfortunately, it takes lives as well. In Dagens medicin (Today’s medicine) 10/11-00 an article about the adverse drug events states:

“… the annual reports that 400 people die because of” unnecessary “drug side effects …” (My translation)

Unnecessary. It makes you wonder which ones are necessary and how many they are. In the United States the third largest cause of death is caused by medication-related adverse events. The figure might even be higher as the study is based on people dying in hospitals. People who die outside hospitals because of side affects from drugs is not in the report.

If the same applies in Sweden is unknown because studies are lacking, but in Norway, another study found that 18% of all deaths in a medical clinic was directly or indirectly associated with drug reactions and unwanted side affects.

Many people talk about the risks of taking vitamin supplements, still no reports show than anyone has ever died from vitamin supplements. I find this curious. How come the risk of medicins are talked so very little about, but the risks of vitamin supplements written generously about. At least here in Sweden.

When surfing the net for articles about prescription drugs I became overwhelmed. They seem to all say the same. We over-use and underestimate the risks of prescription drugs.

It all makes me wonder. Is there a fear of what would happen if we all practiced preventive medicine through vitamins, minerals and healthy living? One can’t help but wonder.

What are your thoughts on this?

Definitely something to think about…Truly no drug will work the same with each person…and no pill is magic…thanks for the thought provoking post.

Absolutely, no drug will work the same with each person! I wish we would all think about that and make wiser and a little more “pill-restrictive” decisions.

this IS why I heal essentially with doTERRA essential oils, I found I was antibiotic resistant to 10 of the 16 common antibiotics used today. I was trying to heal form the medicine as well as what I was taking it for…which often resulted in more medicine 😛 not good. Now, since using the doTERRA essential oils, I am feeling better and no longer get sick for long periods of time… SO MUCH BETTER!
