My top 5 protein sources

Protein is the building blocks and really important. The protein is built up by amino acids and some of them are essential, which means the body can’t produce them itself, but we need to get it through our food. More about protein and what it is here.

Personally I like to get my protein mainly through foods and then a mixture of plant based and animal based proteins. Most of us do eat enough protein, but for those of us who workout more might need to add a little extra to our diet.

Here are my top 5 protein sources.

  1. Eggs – a perfect mini-meal packed with protein, vitamins and minerals. Boil it, make an omelet, make scrambled egg!
  2. Soya beans – the one plant based protein with all essential amino acids. And they look great!
  3. Chicken – a cheap, lean and tasty protein source. Best grilled or cooked.
  4. Salmon – wild salmon is not only packed with protein but also filled with Omega 3.
  5. Chickpeas – great in stews and sallads. And I just love humous, a smooth blend of chickpeas, tahina, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice and spices. (Will be back with recipe!)

So, there they are. Endless in variation and always yummy!

What are your favorite protein sources?

Eggs have a bad rap: too much fat, too much cholesterol, etc. Happy to see them at the top of your list! I like them too.

It’s true, and then we’ve learned, since the big cholesterol scare in the 90s, that for women cholesterol isn’t all that bad! And eggs really are healthy. As always in some moderation 🙂
